Fire protection door – Frequently asked questions

What are fire doors?

Fire doors are special doors that in the event of a fire prevent, that Fire, smoke and Heat to other areas of a building spread. They consist of fire-retardant materials and one in particular robust construction. This way, in a real emergency, they form a protective barrier, keeping escape and rescue routes usable for longer and allowing people to get to safety more safely.

What is the difference between EI 30, EI 60 and EI 90 fire-rated doors?

EI 30, EI 60 and EI 90 describe different fire resistance periods and Testing requirements in the European classification system. Simply put, the number stands for the Time span (30/60/90 minutes), in which the door is intended to fulfil its protective function under defined conditions. The higher the class, the longer remains the Barrier effect received. The class required depends on the installation location, the use of the building, and the Requirements from the fire protection concept or Building Regulations It's important that the door is tested as a complete system and not just that individual components appear „high-quality“. In practice, what ultimately counts is that the chosen door class matches the requirement and is installed correctly.

RS stands for Fire-resistant doors.

RS stands for Smoke protection. größte Gefahr. greatest danger, because he spreads quickly, sight is taken and Escape routes impassable can do. One T30 RS door combined therefore Fire protection with smoke control requirements, so that the spread of smoke is limited much better. This is particularly important in Stairwells, hallways and Areas, which serve as escape routes. The same applies here: smoke protection only works if Seals, fittings and Montage correctly implemented and reliably close the door during operation.

The correct installation of fire doors is so crucial because

Fire doors are tested systems, whose Protective effect only with assembly in accordance with approval is achieved. Errors often occur at the frame, at fastening points or at connection joints. Incorrect fittings or subsequent alterations can also affect approval. In practice, it is therefore important that Installation location, wall construction and Door system match. A clean installation is not only relevant for safety but also for Acceptances, inspections and the Proof to the authorities or Insurance.

How much does a fire door cost?

The Costs for a fire safety door depend on various factors e.g. from the Size, The Fire resistance class, The Material and the desired amenities. Simple models are usually cheaper, while larger or particularly heavy-duty versions cost more. Additional elements such as Glazing, panic locks or Automatic closing systems also increase the price. This is why the exact costs can usually only be determined after the individual requirements determine.
