Innovation Award 2025: EI 90 entrance door made of wood

In 2025, we were honoured with the Brandenburg Innovation Award for the development of our EI 90 wooden entrance door.

The jury's statement said: „With the MB fire-resistant wooden fire door, the joinery has succeeded in developing an innovative product that is successful throughout Europe. The wooden door, which is fire-resistant for 90 minutes in the event of a fire, stands out from competing products made of steel or metal thanks to its special wooden aesthetics, which are particularly popular in listed buildings. The fire door manufactured in Bad Belzig also enables larger opening dimensions for the first time and can also be realised as a double-leaf door with arches. The use of certified wood from sustainable forestry and environmentally friendly paints and coatings to manufacture the fire doors is also impressive because it is environmentally friendly.“

Fire-resistant and barrier-free

The trend towards barrier-free thresholds is unstoppable. Regardless of the ageing population and the desire to live in one's own four walls for as long as possible, threshold-free transitions are simply a matter of convenience today. Doors and French windows must be easy to pass through so that they do not become an obstacle for children, the elderly, wheelchair users and wheelchair users in particular.

For both public buildings and barrier-free flats, there is a requirement to avoid lower door stops. If there is no other technical solution, the height of door thresholds must not exceed 20 mm. Nevertheless, these 20 mm represent an obstacle that must be overcome. With the threshold tested by us, this "stumbling step" is also a thing of the past.

Fire protection and accessibility can therefore be combined in many ways.
